I’ve just realised it’s been a whole month since I last updated the blog, and December was a whirlwind of Christmas preparations and unfortunately for me, poor health 😞 Although that has been unpleasant and stressful, there has also been lots of good stuff too, such as Nicola and I doing our first Story Advent on Twitter and Instagram which was very fun and good for motivating both of us to do more of what we enjoy, Nicola being the wordsmith and I illustrating her wonderful ideas. I don’t really do New Years Resolutions but this time of year does lend itself to reflection on what we are doing and what we would like to do. My best idea has been to try and do more of the things I enjoy despite my illness, to just turn up and see how it goes. Also I’ll hopefully be able to embrace this in my work as well, I often don’t write things because I worry too much about making them perfect or I worry I will inadvertently say something hurtful in a book review or in the representation of people in a story so I don’t take the risk. As much as I value compassion and kindness, it’s actually fear stopping me write as much as I want to or put my ideas out there. Fortunately reading Quiet by Susan Cain has helped me to value my sensitivity and see that a little risk is ok, and mistakes are ok too. I’ll try to be more forgiving of myself for being a normal imperfect human being! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand introverts more. Lastly, the one thing we know 2019 will bring is new books! I’m looking forward to reading as many as I can and sharing them on here and on social media.
